Albert BorgmannWith the vast changes in technology in the years since his death, Merton’s question is more pertinent than ever.

Keynote presentation by Albert Borgmann, Regents Professor of Philosophy at the University of Montana in Missoula. Borgmann is the author of groundbreaking books addressing these topics including Power Failure: Christianity in the Culture of Technology and Technology and the Character of Contemporary Life.
 

Other speakers include:

Kathleen Deignan, CND, Professor of Religious Studies at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY and President of The International Thomas Merton Society. Her books include Thomas Merton’s Writings on Nature andThomas Merton: A Book of Hours.

Phillip Thompson, Executive Director of the Aquinas Center of Theology at Emory University, and author of Between Science and Religion: The Engagement of Catholic Intellectuals with Science and Technology in the Twentieth Century.

Gray Matthews, Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Memphis, Memphis, TN.  and co-editor of The Merton Annual.

Daniel P. Horan, OFM, professor of religious studies at Siena College in Albany, NY whose work has been published in journals such as America, The Merton Annual, The Merton Journal (UK), The Heythrop Journal, Worship, Spiritual Life, and others.  

Claire Badaracco, professor of communication at Marquette University whose recent books include Prescribing Faith: Medicine, Media, and Religion in America Culture and Quoting God: How Media Shape Ideas about Religion and Culture.

Paul R. Dekar, Professor Emeritus at Memphis Theological Seminary, and author of Thomas Merton: Twentieth-Century Wisdom for Twenty-First Century Living.
