The Bride is an exquisite embodiment of one wholly given in love. Sacred traditions are rich with rapturous metaphors of spousal union which celebrate the mystery of the "beloved." The mystical scriptures of Judaism and Christianity in particular are laced through with this one underlying golden thread: the marriage of humanity to divinity-the wedding of earth and heaven. This bridal motif reaches its climax in the visionary Book of Revelation with an invitation to the cosmic nuptial feast celebrating the great union of all creation with the eternal Spouse. All creatures are summoned to this banquet of life, and all are graced to live in the spirit of the Bride. This collection celebrates the Bride Spirit sung in a variety of voices and musical idioms. The sweet lyricism of Celtic prayers from the Carmina Gadelica alternates with the smoldering passion of Teresa of Avila's prayer, pulsing to fiery rhythms of flamenco. The wise insight of Thomas Merton is sung in contemporary chant. The spirit of the Bride is evoked in the intimate whispers of the Hebrew psalmist, in the love song of the Canticle of Canticles, and in the cosmic wedding theme of the Book of Revelation. Whether in a haunting incantation or an anthem of jubilation, the Bride Spirit sings in harmony with all creation, and in rhythm to the silent pulse of love beating within her own heart. A portion of this album's proceeds
will be offered to the "Bridie Fund" for the orphans of Nicaragua.
May we heed the invitation sung by the spirit and the bride: "Come
to the wedding of earth and heaven; Come to the feast of life!" Welcome.
Well come! -Kathleen Deignan, CND |
